Shepard Family Stories - Jack
Liara stares at herself in the mirror, the silky white dress hugging her slender frame. Kaycee's voice sounds from the bedroom, "Liara, sweetie? You almost ready? The babysitter will be here soon."
Liara sighs. "Are you sure this is such a good idea?"
She hears a chuckle from behind the door. "Really? That's what you're worried about? It'll be fine. It's not like she's never been around kids before."
"That's different. They were students, not our daughters."
She hears the click of the door opening, before Kaycee's arms wrap around her, chin on Liara's shoulder. Liara's eyes close as Kaycee places a kiss gently on her neck. "Liara. I trust her."
Liara grumbles something but falls silent, grasping Kaycee's hands in hers. Shepard smiles, "By the way, you look simply gorgeous." Liara notices Kaycee's outfit for the first time. "Wait
.isn't that the outfit Kasumi got you?"
Shepard nods, "It's not like I have that many dresses sweetie. You know I'm not usually one to wear them, but since this night is for us, I thought you would like it." She reaches in front of Liara, picking up a small golden cylinder. Releasing Liara from the embrace, she popped the top off the tube revealing bright crimson lipstick. After applying the finishing touch to her ensemble, she turns to Liara, "Now then let's head downstairs. She should be here any minute."
As if on cue, the doorbell rings. Shepard makes her way downstairs carefully, still not entirely comfortable in the high heels. Jack stands in the doorway, clad in a white tank top and jeans, her hands in her pockets. Kaycee smiles at the sight. "What's the matter? Is the psychotic biotic actually nervous about babysitting a couple of little girls?"
Jack glares at Shepard, invoking an even bigger grin. "Will you stop smiling you little ---"
A blue blur streaks past Shepard's waist, coming to rest in front of Jack. "How many times do I have to tell you Ayrene? The name is Jack."
Jack's face softens, a smile spreading. She kneels down, arms out, "Come here you."
Aya giggles, giving Jack a hug before rocketing off back into the house. Straightening back up, Jack turns back to Shepard. "I see she hasn't changed. Still a bundle of energy?"
"Yep, she definitely takes after me in that way."
"So who am I looking after tonight? All four?"
"Actually, Velair and Rinyn are having a sleepover at my mom's house. So you'll be watching Ayrene and Syren. Speaking of whom
Jack looks down and sees half of a small blue face peeking out from behind her father's leg. Kaycee chuckles quietly, "Honey, it's okay. You remember Jack don't you?"
Tilting her head to one side, Jack gives the tiny blue girl a wink. Little Syren gasps and hides behind her dad's legs. Shepard sighs, reaching down to pick her up into her arms. Syren clutches her dad's neck tightly, watching Jack from the corner of her eye. "Hey now, it's fine. Jack's gonna watch you and your sister tonight. Your mom and I will be back later. Now then, why don't you say hello."
Jack thinks to herself, It's no surprise, she's nervous around me. The way I look. I'm just lucky she didn't start crying. Suddenly, she's looking into the brilliant blue eyes of Syren. "
"Aww..that's my girl! Why don't you go get your friend to show Jack?"
Placing Syren back on the ground, she turns to see Liara at the bottom of the stairs, hand on the bannister. Jack gives a wolf whistle. "Wow! Aren't you a sight!"
"Where you two going tonight anyways?"
"We're going to Elysium tonight for a nice dinner, maybe some dancing."
Jack bursts out laughing. "Dancing?!? How many times before people realize Shepard?"
Kaycee frowns in mock displeasure, punching Jack in the arm. "Who says I haven't been practicing?"
Liara looks at the clock. "Shepard, we better get going. Our reservation was for seven, remember?"
"Oh! You're right! Aya? Syren? We're heading out! Be good for Jack, alright?"
"Okay dad. Don't worry, we'll keep out of trouble."
